AFC is actively involved in promoting and supporting local agricultural production through education and training and by supplying seedlings to small-scale and subsistence farmers. The aim is to ensure food secure, healthy and poverty-liberated communities in the areas within which AFC operates.

One such beneficiary is Khanya Nursery - a 100% black women-owned cooperative in Alice. The project is solely focused on producing seedlings and the land they operate under belongs to the University of Fort Hare.

With AFC’s ongoing support, Khanya Nursery was able to accommodate agriculture and horticulture students for experiential training. 13 students from Lovedale FET College and one post-graduate student from the University of Fort Hare were given real job responsibility, gaining a true learning experience that they will carry with them as they begin their careers.
