Public Access to Forests

The greater part of the forestry estate falls on State Forest land leased to AFC in terms of a long term lease agreement. The National Forests Act recognises the rights of all citizens to make use of State Forests for recreational, educational, cultural and spiritual purposes and prescribes that an entity in control of State Forests may prescribe access rules to manage these public rights.

AFC controls access to the estate on a permit and licensing system. Members of the public wishing to enter areas of the estate are required to apply for access permits that are governed by access rules designed to protect the interests of the company, the safety of persons accessing the estate and the natural environment. A number of licensed sporting and social events take place on the forest estate annually.

Interested members of the public may apply to any of the AFC plantation offices to obtain further details or apply for access licensing.
